Since our first edition of Hands-on Virtual Computing, virtualization technology has matured to become a major player in the Data Center as well as the backbone of Cloud computing. Many products covered in our first edition no longer exist, and other products and applications have grown to take their place. The second edition of Hands-on Virtual Computing is a major rewrite that will provide your students with a background in this exciting and growing technology.
I think you will agree that students learn and retain new technology best by actually working with the products. To accommodate this, our book is loaded with hands-on activities that give students the opportunity to gain experience working with current products from Oracle, Microsoft, and VMware. To make the activities realistic and affordable, our book uses free and trial versions of software downloaded from manufacturer Web sites.
With growth comes change, and while our book was published just this year, we are already seeing changes in products that affect the steps in some of our activities. One way to avoid changes to the activities is to use Cengage MindTap Live Virtual Lab in which the products are fixed at the version we used to develop the activity steps.
